Seymour Island

A multiplayer introduction to coding in Minecraft Education.

This 2-3 hour activity will bring a class of students on a coding adventure. Initially beginning on the high seas, with Captain Papert, the students will eventually find themselves shipwrecked on Seymour Island. After sneaking into the town (through the town sewers), students find themselves tasked with fixing a number of issues that have arisen around the town. These 8 tasks range from basic agent movement, to conditionals and loops, with students receiving a point on the leaderboard for each completed. The tasks are available to students in MakeCode Blocks or Azure Notebooks Python, with some tasks also requiring them to collaborate with other students.

After the major success of the world, Microsoft commissioned an upgraded version using Azure Notebooks Python in August 2021.

A collection of 18 tutorials for the Minecraft Education Notebooks Python code editor. These tutorials, initially based off a set created for the Makecode platform, took significant work to translate over to this new platform.
They are now used every day by thousands of students across the world.

Python Islands

A collection of 7 lessons teaching a full introduction to Python coding.

Welcome to the Kingdom of the Floating Islands. This mystical kingdom floats high above the world below. Throughout this collection of 6 lessons, students will learn the basics of Python, through a series of themed tasks in each world. Completing these tasks will allow the kingdom to develop further technologically. Aimed at KS3 students, these lessons cover everything from input/outputs, to conditional statements, loops and right up to lists.

In August 2021, Microsoft commissioned an extension to Python Islands with a new Island 7 to go alongside the new Reference Guide.

An extensive guide covering all commands available within the Azure Notebooks Python API.

This extensive guide covers the full range of commands available to students within the Azure Notebooks Python API, within Minecraft Education.
Each command includes one or multiple examples that students can easily run within the game, along with detailed explanations of the available parameters.

The Reference Guide was developed to allow students to take Python in Minecraft further, to give them the tools to create their own complex programs.

Alongside the Reference Guide, Python Islands 7 was added with 6 new activities that are written in such a way as to encourage students to make use of the reference guide in developing their solutions.

An detailed course of professional development materials to support teachers in delivering Minecraft Education based Python activities in their classrooms.

This major new course provides educators with the needed professional development to deliver Python based content within their classrooms. The 2 part Microsoft Learn course and 1-2 in person training course materials are designed to bring a complete beginner in using Python within Minecraft right up to a confident expert.
The courses include 7 professionally produced videos and covers everything from Python Islands / Python 101 and Seymour Island, right up to the Python Tutorials and Reference Guide.

AI Wildlife Park

An introduction to Artificial Intelligence for young children in Minecraft Education, commissioned by the Mozilla Foundation as part of the Mozilla Festival 2023.

Can you help the Wildlife Park build an AI based feeding system? Learn how an AI is only as good as the data it’s trained with.
This world and lesson materials were commissioned by the Mozilla Foundation as part of YouthZone at Mozilla Festival 2023.

Working with the Mozilla Foundation, Causeway Digital helped the foundation navigate the complex environment of Minecraft, allowing them to reach a new audience that they may not have otherwise been able to reach. The content was developed for a young audience (ages 8-13) and provides a foundation in what AI is and more importantly, how the data you use to train your AI can impact the outcomes, for better or for worse.

Cyber Expert

A 3 world series introducing students to cyber security topics including encryption, firewalls, access control and much more.

Go deeper into cybersecurity and build digital fluency and cyber skills with topics like encryption and social engineering. Witness the effects of malware and learn techniques to combat it. Cyber Expert covers encryption/decryption, message integrity, DoS/DDoS attacks, Malware and Ransomware. It’s not just about warding off attacks but understanding the why and how. Protect against digital chaos, learn how to identify and remediate impacted systems, and explore career connections in cyber.

Working with Florida International University over a 9-12 month period, Causeway Digital took their vision and produced 3 standards aligned worlds that cover a number of the more advanced topics within cybersecurity. This involved working within a number of stakeholders to cover the requirements within the grant, while also building training materials to support educators within Florida to deliver the content within their classrooms. The project was funded by a grant through the”Cybersecurity and Information Technology Pathways Program, lead by Florida Department of Education.
